Our Vision & Task

Our Vision

First Presbyterian Church, responding to God’s grace, will offer a variety of Bible-based ministries to transform lives and equip men, women and children for their calling to love, glorify and enjoy God in all of life by…

  • Realizing the centrality of God’s Word for all of life (Discipleship)
  • Responding to God’s call with Christ-centered worship (Worship)
  • Relating to one another as God’s people (Community)
  • Reaching out to share God’s grace in word and deed (Outreach & Mercy)

Our Task

Realizing the centrality of God’s Word for all of life (Discipleship).  God saves people by grace alone through faith in Christ alone as he is revealed in the Gospel alone. All this is for God’s glory alone.  The foundation for all life and godliness is God’s Word which is applicable not only for coming to faith in Christ, but for growth in Christ.  The completed work of Christ drives us to a continual study of God’s goodness and our responsibilities as his followers.

Responding to God’s call with Christ-centered worship (Worship). Worship means celebrating God’s worth.  In worship, God shows his grace through the Word, prayer, and sacraments. Our worship is driven by God’s Word, empowered by the Spirit, extolling the Son, to the delight of our Father.  We confess our historic faith through creeds, songs, and prayers meaningful to Christians new and experienced, young and old, expecting God’s Spirit to work among us.  In the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper, God reminds us that we belong to him.  Our corporate worship sets a pattern for a life of worship including family worship and private devotion.

Relating to one another as God’s people (Community).  God works not only to save individual souls, but to create a community that increasingly reflects His glorious kingdom.  Christ is the head of the Church and we are His body.  We come from a variety of places, vocations and backgrounds, demonstrating the power of the Holy Spirit to unite us. In Christ we develop true community through personal relationships that strengthen and encourage one another.

Reaching out to share God’s grace in word and deed (Outreach & Mercy).  God desires each of us to be a blessing as participants in Jesus’ Great Commission to reach our community and the world.  Because Christ laid down his life for us, we sacrifice to offer the life giving message of the gospel and to give practical assistance to those in need.
